The Ulster Industrial Explosives Shot firing course has been run for many years and attended by the majority of Northern Irelands licensed Shot firers.
The next Shotfiring course is scheduled for;
None currently scheduled in 2012.
Attendance at a 5 day (+1 exam day) EPIC Approved Shot firing course is currently a pre-requisite for a Shot firing licence application. This is likely to change in the future, similar to G.B. requirements, when an NVQ Level 3 in blasting operations shall be mandatory.
Objectives;
To train personnel working within quarries (Drillers , Shot firers and Managers) to execute blasting operations in accordance with the Quarries (Explosives) Regulations Approved Code of Practice Appendix 1.
To introduce participants to explosives types and accessories currently available.
To provide an appreciation of the surveying equipment and face profiling techniques.
To consider the environmental problems associated with quarry blasting.
To examine aspects of primary blast design in order to prepare and execute a blast specification.
To determine a procedure when dealing with misfires.
An examination is taken on the final day of the course.
