The Quarrying Products Association N. I. announced and launched the "Hard Target" initiative in 2005. The overall objective of this initiative is to halve the number of accidents occurring within N. Ireland quarries by 2010. As part of this initiative and to contribute to achieving the objective of reducing accidents, the Quarry Products Association, in partnership with H.S.E.N.I., EPIC ( The National Training Organisation for the extractive and mineral processing industries) and the Safety Pass Alliance they have developed a safety training scheme.
To obtain the Contractors Safety Passport , individuals have to successfully complete a 2 day modular health & safety course. A multi choice question paper is completed at the end of each module which must be passed for the Passport to be awarded. The first day will cover general health & safety including an introduction to the law , workplace safety , fire precautions , hazardous substances , manual handling , noise and accidents. The second day is specific to the industry (ie Quarrying or General Manufacturing)
Ulster Industrial Explosives are providers of the Contractors Safety Passport scheme within N. Ireland.
